Spa town Tapolca is situated in Veszprém province, in western part of Hungary, near the famous Lake Balaton. Spa town is situated 49 kilometres far from Veszprém, the capitol of Veszprém province. At the present time Tapolca has a population of over 16,000 citizens.

Spa description

Spa town Tapolca is situated only 12 kilometres far from the famous Hungarian Lake Balaton. The name of town is derived from the Hungarian word topulcha, which means thermal water.

Thermal water is being gained from the caves, which are also the biggest attraction of Tapolca. Local unique three floor cave system was created by the karst waters. The water in lower parts of the cave has a temperature of 19 degrees of Celsius. In lower part of the cave you can take a boat ride. In the cave there is stable temperature of 15 degrees of Celsius. There is 100 percent humidity, which is good for treatment of asthma, allergies and other respiratory problems.

Local water is used as a bathing cure. The water helps with neurological problems connected with heart diseases, vegetative nervous system diseases, high blood pressure and with neurotic stomach disorder.

Short history

An unique cave in the centre of Tapolca was explored accidentally. The cave was explored in 1903, while digging a well. Another part, which was explored in 1925, was chosen for spa treatment.

Places of interest

Spa town Tapolca is not only a thermal spa, but also a wine producer. Tapolca became famous for its traditional wine production. Good quality of local wine is guaranteed.

Another attraction is very beautiful Lake Malom. If you want to see historical sights, you can visit a protestant church from the first half of the 20th century and the Roman Catholic church.
