Spa Liptovský Ján is situated in the Žilina Region, which lies in the north-western part of the Slovak Republic. The spa is 93 kilometres far from Žilina, the capital of the region. At the moment, Liptovský Ján has a population of more than 900 people.

Spa description

The village where this spa is located has a lot of interesting historical sites. The mineral springs of the area are considered to be the most abundant source of curative water in the Slovak Republic. About 35 litres of water spring to the surface every second. South of the spa, there are several outdoor thermal swimming pools, where you can have a swim or bath in this mineral water.

In the spa itself, there is an 50-metre long indoor swimming pool, two children´s pools and a pool destined specially for those, who just want to relax in the thermal water. The local spring is called Rudolf and its water has a temperature of 28,2°C. The spa Liptovský Ján specializes in the treatmnet of skin, nervous and gynecological diseases. There has been some success in the treatment of rheumatism and metabolic disorders, too.

Short history

The village of Liptovský Ján was founded long ago, but its greatest development started in the 19th century with the arrival of Jewish businessmen and continued in the 1920s with the establishment of the spa itself. A thermal swimming pool was built here in the 1970s.

Places of interest

Near Liptovský Ján, one can visit numerous historical sites, museums and galleries. Most of these are concentrated in the towns of Liptovský Mikuláš and Banská Bystrica. In Pribylina, you can admire a beautiful open-air folk museum.  Its buildings were taken from the villages which were flooded when the Liptovská Mara dam was built.

Around Liptovský Ján, there are many hiking and cycling tracks, so the clients of the spa can go on a trip and enjoy the beautiful nature of the area. In the Jánska Valley, numerous caves are located, some of them being several kilometres long. If we add the length of all these caves together, we will get an astonishing number of 150 kilometres. However, most of these caves have not been completely explored yet. Out of the publicly accessible caves of the area, Stanišovské Caves are the most well-known.

You cannot simply leave Liptovský Ján without having tasted the bryndza of the region, which has a reputation for being the best in this part of the country.
